IWC Full Masters Scholarships for Australian and International Students, 2015

Applications are invited for IWC scholarships available for high calibre international and domestic candidates. Up to 6 full scholarships will be awarded for enrolling in the Master of Integrated Water Management (MIWM) program at University of Queensland commencing in Semester 1, 2015. These IWC scholarships include both international and domestic scholarships. The international scholarships further consist of two types of scholarships i.e. GWP-IWC full scholarship (available for female candidates who hold citizenship in one of the 85 countries where GWP has a Country Water Partnership) and IWC scholarship (available for international students). Successful candidates will be selected on a merit-basis.

Study Subject (s): Scholarships support students enrolled in the Master of Integrated Water Management (MIWM) program.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing master degree at University of Queensland.
Scholarship Provider: The International Water Centre (IWC) (except GWP-IWC full scholarship which is co-funded by IWC and the Global Water Partnership).

Eligibility: Scholarships are available to high calibre international and domestic candidates to study the Master of Integrated Water Management (MIWM) program. All applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements outlined below.
-A completed undergraduate degree in a related field of study from an internationally-recognised institution
-At least two years of professional experience (paid work or volunteering experience) relevant to the program and following completion of an undergraduate degree. Although not essential for entry in the MIWM program, candidates with relevant professional experience have a higher chance of securing a scholarship.
-International students must also demonstrate English language proficiency.

Scholarship Open for International Students: GWP-IWC scholarships are open for the students who hold citizenship in one of the 85 countries where GWP has a Country Water Partnership (Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Benin, Bhutan, Botswana, Brazil, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Côte d’Ivoire, Czech Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Egypt, El Salvador, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Honduras, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Laos), Latvia, Lesotho, Lithuania, Malawi, Malaysia, Mali, Moldova, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Republic of the Congo, Romania, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Swaziland, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Thailand, The Gambia, Togo, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe); IWC scholarships are available for international students (not an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or New Zealand citizen) from anywhere in the world and Domestic scholarships will be available for Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.

Scholarship Description: The IWC Masters Scholarships are prestigious scholarships awarded annually to high calibre candidates accepted into the Master of Integrated Water Management (MIWM) and who clearly demonstrate potential to become water leaders of the future. IWC is offering the following scholarships to study the MIWM program commencing in Semester 1, 2015:
1). International scholarships:
A.Up to two (2) GWP-IWC scholarships (tuition fees + living expenses) co-funded by IWC and the Global Water Partnership (GWP). These two scholarships will be available for international students who meet the minimum eligibility requirements and who: are female candidates (in line with GWP’s gender strategy), and hold citizenship in one of the 85 countries where GWP has a Country Water Partnership.
B. Up to two (2) IWC scholarships (tuition fees) funded by IWC. These will be available for international students from anywhere in the world who meet the minimum eligibility requirements. Men and women are invited to apply, regardless of their country of origin.
2). Domestic scholarships: Up to two (2) IWC scholarships (tuition fees) funded by IWC. These will be available for Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens who meet the minimum eligibility requirements.

Number of award(s): Total 6 IWC scholarships will be awarded as follows: up to 4 International scholarships (two GWP-IWC scholarships and two IWC scholarships) and up to 2 domestic scholarships.

Duration of award(s):
-For international scholarships: the MIWM program must be completed within a maximum of three consecutive semesters of full-time study (18 months). Recipients are required to complete the program within the duration specified in the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
-For domestic scholarships: the MIWM program must be completed within a maximum of three consecutive semesters of full-time study (18 months) or six consecutive semesters of part-time/distance study (3 years). All scholarships are awarded on the basis that Recipients maintain an enrolled status in their course of study. Requests for extensions to the period of study or temporary suspension of the scholarship may be granted under exceptional circumstances and must be made in writing to IWC for review on a case-by-case basis.

What does it cover?
A. GWP-IWC full scholarships for international students (up to two available): These scholarships are jointly funded by IWC and the GWP. Each is valued at approximately AU$ 79,311 and covers the following expenses:
-Full tuition fees for full-time study of the IWC Master of Integrated Water Management program commencing in 2015 (valued at AU$ 49,920 over 18 months)
-Overseas Student Health Cover (valued at AU$ 856 for 18 months)
-Cost of student visa for a single student (valued at AU$ 535)
-Living expenses stipend (valued at EUR 20,000 or approximately AU$ $28,000 for 15 months), payable in equal monthly instalments in Australian dollars.
Important- Scholarships do not cover travel costs and some of the expenses will have to be paid upfront by successful recipients.
B. IWC scholarships for international students (up to two available): These scholarships are funded by IWC. Each is valued at approximately AU$ 50,776 including:
-Full tuition fees for full-time study of the IWC Master of Integrated Water Management program commencing in 2015 (valued at AU$ 49,920 over 18 months)
-Overseas Student Health Cover (valued at AU$ 856 for 18 months)
C. IWC Full-tuition Scholarships for domestic students (up to two available): These scholarships are funded by IWC. Each is valued at approximately AU$ 49,920 and covers: Full tuition fees for full-time (18 months) or part-time/distance study (3 years) of the IWC Master of Integrated Water Management program commencing in 2015.

Selection Criteria: Successful scholarships recipients possess an excellent academic record and several years of relevant professional experience. The Selection Panel uses the following selection criteria when assessing your scholarship application:
-Academic record: an excellent academic record and a likelihood of success in further study.
-Professional and volunteering record: relevant employment or volunteering experience, achievements, membership of professional bodies and professional references.
-Commitment to promoting and driving the implementation of collaborative, whole-of-water-cycle, integrated and interdisciplinary approaches to water management.
-Leadership qualities including collaboration and team work, flexibility, initiative, communication skills, integrity and vision through professional, educational, community and other achievements.
-Potential outcomes: the likelihood of positive impacts on the individual and the water sector from participating in the MIWM program.
-The Selection Panel will look at the answers you provided in the scholarship application form (‘Selection Criteria Statement’) as well as your CV and referees. The Selection Panel adheres to IWC’s policy of non-discrimination for this process.

Notification: Successful international recipients will be notified by 10 September 2014 and successful domestic recipients by 15 October 2014. Successful Recipients will be informed of the value of their scholarship and what it covers in their scholarship offer letter from IWC.

Online Application: The mode of applying is online. In addition, all scholarship candidates are also required to submit a separate application for admission in the MIWM program to The University of Queensland (UQ) before or soon after submitting a scholarship application form – and at the latest, by the application deadline.

Scholarship Application Deadline: International students can apply until 1 August. Domestic scholarships will be open from 1 July till 1 October.
