2014 Asian Development Bank Internship Programme for Member Countries

Asian Development Bank offers internship programme for graduate students to gain experience through research assignments based on ADB’s current operational needs. Applicants must be enrolled in a Master’s- or PhD-level program at a school in one of the ADB member nations, both prior to and after the internship assignment. Internship opportunities are available in these departments: Economics and Research Department, Independent Evaluation Department, Office of Regional Economic Integration, Pacific Department, Regional and Sustainable Development Department, South Asia Department, Southeast Asia Department and Southeast Asia Department.

Eligibility: To be eligible for internship, applicants must:
-be enrolled in a Master’s- or PhD-level program at a school in one of the ADB member nations, both prior to and after the internship assignment;
-be engaged in academic study in a field directly related to ADB’s work;
-be a national of one of ADB’s members;
-possess an excellent command of English; and
-have professional experience relevant to the assignment

Is this paid internship? Yes

What does it offer? Stipend is provided to all interns according to the location of internships up to 56 calendar days. Interns may choose to work beyond 56 calendar days in agreement with the designated supervisors, but without stipend. Exception to receiving stipend would be interns who fall under the special arrangement category between select schools and ADB.

Internship Description: The Internship Program is a project-oriented learning opportunity for graduate students to gain experience through research assignments based on ADB’s current operational needs. ADB advertises internship assignments three times per year and welcomes motivated, open-minded, and self-directed individuals to apply. Students can apply directly online through the ADB Recruitment Center (ARC). They do not have to be nominated by their schools. Their schools are no longer required to register with ADB. ADB does not accept applications from close relatives of ADB staff.

Internship Duration: The duration should be a minimum of eight (8) weeks (56 days) and a maximum of 26 weeks or six (6) months for one internship assignment.

Selection Criteria: ADB evaluates applications based on: eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience; and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.

How to Apply: Applicants are required to apply online. Eligible candidates apply through the ADB Recruitment Center (ARC). ADB announces the assignments on the website and candidates choose assignments of interest. Candidates apply through ARC, prepare for their CVs and answer the essay questions. All documents (CV and Essay) are uploaded to ARC to complete application. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

Internship Application Deadline: Application periods for the 2014 Internship Program: 1st Batch – 18 October – 13 November 2013, 2nd Batch – 10 January – 5 February 2014 and 3rd Batch – 7 March – 2 April 2014.
