FPCI in Talks with Nobukatsu Kanehara: Towards the Free and Open Indo-Pacific, Japan’s Grand Strategy
On Thursday, October 17, 2019, the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) held an event. It was named Bengkel Diplomasi. The talk took place at Mayapada Tower 1.
The event featured Mr. Nobukatsu Kanehara and Prof. Dewi Fortuna Anwar. The discussion lasted from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM WIB. Attendees included students from various universities in Jabodetabek. Think-tanks and members of the public also joined.
The topic of the talk was “Towards the Free and Open Indo-Pacific, Japan’s Grand Strategy.” Mr. Nobukatsu Kanehara served as the speaker. He is a former deputy secretary general of the national security secretary. He also served as assistant chief cabinet secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office of Japan.
Prof. Dewi Fortuna Anwar moderated this talk. She is a research professor at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI).
Mr. Kanehara discussed Japan-Indonesia relations. He focused on the economic aspect. He also detailed Japan’s plan to maintain sustainable partnerships in the region. The discussion also covered external factors. Specifically, how the activities of China, Korea, and the US affect Japan’s strategy.
The event concluded with a Q&A session. This session lasted for 30 minutes. Following the discussion, there was a photo session.
