How to Make Foreign Policy More Grounded to the Wider Audience?
FP Talks Knowledge Hub – Foreign Policy Talks and Binus International Relations Department
On Saturday, September 17 and 24, 2022, the Foreign Policy Talks (FP Talks) and the International Relations (IR) department of Bina Nusantara University (Binus) held a workshop entitled “FP Talks Knowledge Hub” How to Make Foreign Policy More Grounded to the Wider Audience?”
The workshop was aimed to provide general knowledge as well as practical skills to the participants regarding how to better understand and better communicate the foreign policy to the wider audience. The workshop was divided into two simultaneous sessions on day 1 and three simultaneous sessions on day 2.
On day 1 (September 17), participants could choose between room 1 and room 2. Room 1 discussed how to cope with the challenges in foreign policy decision making. Ms. Ani Nigeriawati, Inter-Pillar Cooperation Section Head at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, acted as mentor for the discussion on room 1. Dr. Rhevy Adriade Putra, a lecturer of IR Binus, moderated the discussion.
Meanwhile, room 2 discussed how to connect theory and practice in foreign policy making. Mr. Pandu Utama Manggala, a diplomat at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, acted as mentor for the discussion on room 2. Mr. Alvin Ernesto, a lecturer of IR Binus, moderated the discussion.
On day 2 (September 24), participants could choose between room 1, 2, and 3. Room 1 discussed how to write critical opinion on foreign affairs. Mr. Aristyo Rizka Darmawan, a lecturer of the Faculty of Law at University of Indonesia, acted as mentor for the discussion on room 1. Tangguh Chairil, a lecturer of IR Binus, moderated the discussion.
Meanwhile, room 2 discussed how to effectively write reports on international issues. Ms. Dian Septiari, a journalist with The Australian, acted as mentor for the discussion on room 2. Dr. Ella Syafputri Prihatini, a lecturer of IR Binus, moderated the discussion.
Finally, room 3 discussed how to advocate foreign policy to non-International Relations communities. Mr. Calvin Khoe, Co-Director of Research and Analysis at the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), acted as mentor for the discussion on room 3. Dr. Eryan Tri Ramadhani, a lecturer of IR Binus, moderated the discussion.
The workshop was a collaboration between FP Talks and IR Binus. FP Talks is a network of foreign policy enthusiasts that drive advanced international expertise and discourse on foreign affairs. FP Talks was founded by Thomas Noto Suoneto, who is an alumnus of IR Binus who graduated in 2017 and has then worked as foreign policy analyst at various institutions.
