CBDS BINUS and ASPI Held Interactive Workshop on “Persuasive Technologies and National Resilience”
On Thursday, 13 February 2025, the Centre for Business and Diplomatic Studies (CBDS) of the International Relations Department, Bina Nusantara (BINUS) University collaborated with the Cyber, Technology and Security team of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) to hold an interactive workshop on “persuasive technologies and national resilience”. The workshop was held in Shangri-La Jakarta.
Persuasive technologies are defined as “the tools and systems designed to shape users’ decision-making”, which exist all around us. These technologies include generative artificial intelligence (gen AI), ambient intelligence technologies (e.g., internet of things/IoT, smart environments), and neuro-technologies (e.g., brain-computer interfaces). These technologies offer not only opportunities, but also risks to individuals, communities, and to national security.
For the workshop, BINUS and ASPI invited participants from the Indonesian government agencies, academia, and civil society organizations to discuss the national security implications of persuasive technologies. ASPI analysts presented their research findings on case studies of the use of such technologies to support foreign affairs operations. BINUS and ASPI also invited a speaker from Indonesian civil society organization to present about the use of such technologies in the Indonesian case.
