CBDS BINUS and ASPI Held Interactive Workshop on “Persuasive Technologies and National Resilience”
Jakarta, 13 February 2025 — The Centre for Business and Diplomatic Studies (CBDS), International Relations Department, Bina Nusantara (BINUS) University, in collaboration with the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), organized an interactive workshop on persuasive technologies and national resilience. The event took place at Shangri-La Jakarta and attracted participants from various institutions.
Understanding Persuasive Technologies
Persuasive technologies are tools and systems designed to shape human decision-making. They are increasingly embedded in everyday life, from generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and smart environments to brain–computer interfaces.
These innovations bring both opportunities and risks. While they can enhance efficiency and innovation, they may also threaten personal privacy, social integrity, and national resilience when misused.
Key Discussions and Presentations
During the workshop, participants from Indonesian government agencies, academia, and civil society organizations explored the implications of persuasive technologies and national resilience in today’s global digital ecosystem.
ASPI analysts presented case studies illustrating how such technologies have been used to support foreign policy and defense operations. The discussions emphasized how governments must strengthen cybersecurity and critical infrastructure to maintain national stability.
Indonesian Perspective on Persuasive Tech
To enrich the dialogue, a representative from an Indonesian civil society organization presented real-world examples of persuasive technology use in the local context. This perspective highlighted the urgent need for digital literacy, transparent policy frameworks, and multi-sector collaboration to manage the evolving technological landscape.
Strengthening Collaboration and Resilience
This workshop marked another milestone in the growing cooperation between CBDS BINUS and ASPI, demonstrating a shared commitment to advancing research on technology, diplomacy, and national resilience. Both institutions agreed to continue future engagements to explore ethical technology governance and regional security strategies.
