James Carouso
James Carouso became Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy Canberra in July 2016. Mr. Carouso is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counselor.
Following a fourteen year career in international banking and finance, Mr. Carouso joined the U.S. Department of State in 1995. Since then he has served in a variety of economic and commercial roles in the Dominican Republic, South Africa, Australia, Thailand and Cyprus, including acting as a member of the U.S. teams negotiating Free Trade Agreements in Australia and Thailand. Mr. Carouso served as the Counselor for Economic Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta.
Prior to his assignment in Australia, Mr. Carouso served as Director of the State Department Office responsible for relations with the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore and East Timor.
Mr. Carouso holds a degree in Economics from Hamilton College and a Masters in International Finance from the American Graduate School of International Management.
