Visiting Scholar to National Cheng Chi University, Taiwan
VISITING SCHOLAR TO NATIONAL CHENG CHI UNIVERSITY, TAIWAN
Tirta Nugraha Mursitama
Head, Department of International Relations, BINUS UNIVERSITY
Early in November this year, I had the opportunity to visit National Cheng Chi University (NCCU), Taipei, Taiwan with agenda on discussing about the collaboration projects and delivering a lecture to the students of the College of Social Science. Previously, BINUS UNIVERSITY and NCCU have signed a memorandum of understanding, which established a good foundation for the long-term cooperation of the two universities.
Welcomed warmly by Prof. Yih-Chyi Chuang, Dean of the College of Social Science, we had a meeting over lunch with topic mainly on student and faculty exchange as well as research activities of two institutions. In addition, we also talked about the relationship progress between Taiwan and ASEAN countries, especially Indonesia.
I also met Prof. Ming Lee, Dean of the College of International Affairs, NCCU. We briefly discussed about the possibility of cooperation between International Relations BINUS and College of International Affairs of NCCU as they happen to be the only one who has the Department of Diplomacy in Taiwan.
During the public lecture, I delivered a topic on “Indonesia’s Economic Diplomacy toward ASEAN China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA)” which is part of my research that has been conducted in the last few years. It is mainly about how the decision-making process is taken for Indonesia to join the ACFTA while the expected impact of the agreement is not necessarily beneficial for Indonesia.
The lecture was concluded with token of appreciation from Prof. Chuang. In return, I conveyed a BINUS souvenir to Prof. Chuang for this wonderful visit opportunity to National Cheng Chi University.
