ICOBIRD 2024
On 28-29 August 2024, the International Relations Department of BINUS University held the 13th edition of the International Conference on Business, International Relations, and Diplomacy (ICOBIRD). This year, the annual conference carries the theme “Digital Frontiers: The Intersection of SDGs, Technology, and International Relations in Shaping the Modern World”. It is part of the BINUS Joint International Conference (BJIC) in BINUS Indo-Pacific Forum. The forum and conference were held in hybrid mode from The Stones Hotel Legian, Kuta, Bali.
On the first day, ICOBIRD was preceded by the BINUS Indo-Pacific Forum welcoming ceremony with keynote speeches by:
- Prof. Dr. Tirta Nugraha Mursitama, Ph.D.; Deputy Minister for Investment Cooperation, Ministry of Investment/Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board, Republic of Indonesia;
- H.E. Gina A. Jamoralin, Ph.D., Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of The Republic of Philippines to The Republic of Indonesia;
- Prof. Dr. Arif Satria, Rector of Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB University).
- Dr. Felix Tan, Associate Dean (International) and Associate Professor of Information Systems, University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia;
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Manmeet Mahinderjit Singh, Programme Manager Research Ecosystem, Development & Innovation, School of Computer Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Malaysia;
- Mr. Rakhmat Yulianto, Director of Investment Promotion Development, Ministry of Investment/ Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Republic of Indonesia.
The participants also joined the Kuta Pledge for Sustainable Future at the end of the welcoming ceremony.
After the welcoming ceremony, every conference of the BJIC started after lunch break. On the first day, ICOBIRD had seven panels held online, as follow:
- Panel 1 on “Technology and International Relations”, moderated by Cyntia Sipahutar;
- Panel 2 on “Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship”, moderated by Yosef Dedy Pradipto;
- Panel 3 on “Progress of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within International Relations Subsets”, moderated by Paramitaningrum;
- Panel 4 on “Innovative Strategies in Technology and Governance: Advancing Sustainable Development and Global Influence”, moderated by Aditya Permana;
- Panel 5 on “Leadership, Media, and Human Rights in International Relations”, moderated by Mochamad Alvin Dwiana Qobulsyah;
- Panel 6 on “Historical and Theoretical Perspectives on IR and Technology”, moderated by Eryan Ramadhani;
- Panel 7 on “Technological Innovations and Their Impact on Security, Culture, and Governance in Southeast Asia”, moderated by Roseno Aji Affandi.
On the second day, ICOBIRD continued with a special panel opened by Dr. Elisa Carolina Marion, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, BINUS University. The special panel featured two speakers, moderated by Dr. Lili Yulyadi Arnakim (BINUS University):
- Dr. Daniel McCarthy (University of Melbourne), who spoke about “Mapping Power, Analyzing Closure: Socio-Technical Imaginaries of Innovation and the SDGs”;
- Dr. Karryl Kim Sagun Trajano (Nanyang Technological University/NTU), who spoke about “Future Threats, Potential Opportunities, and Current Actions: Emerging Technologies and Traditional and Non-Traditional Security in Southeast Asia”, delivered through pre-recorded video.
After lunch break, ICOBIRD continued with three panels, as follow:
- Panel 8 on “Technology and State-Society Relations”, moderated by Rangga Aditya;
- Panel 9 on “Media, Narratives, and International Relations”, moderated by Dian Novikrisna;
- Panel 10 on “Technology’s Role in Political and Economic Development”, moderated by Elisabeth Ermuliana Kembaren.
